Is there any research to document the side effets of ritalin or other medication on stuttering. I have read about people who claim ritalin made their stuttering worse. I also know two adults who stated that it did. I have a child in therapy now, that I thought I could dismiss because his stuttering was improving greatly. He was placed on ritalin and his dysfluencies increase. I also note it is more severe when he has had the medication within the past hour. When it is about time for the noon dose, his fluency is better. I know that no research has been done on Wellbutrin (used for depression) however, many people who stutter that have used it have said it made their stuttering much worse. I think we need some research in this area to guide us.
