The family tree phenomenon is well documented. In technical terms there is "familial transmission" put simply ADHD can run in the family. The consensus now is that it is genetically heritable, though I think that environment also plays a large role. I can't speak to language patterns. I can note that the same types of behaviors seen in the child are likely to be seen in some parents. Therapist often mistake some of these behaviors (e.g. missing appointments, undiplomatic statements) as lack of concern or involvement when it can be due to the same problems as the child. One critical factor to consider when dealing with parents of children with ADHD-these are likely to be **very stressed**individuals because of the constant problems dealing with their child. Depression is not uncommon.
