Katie, as with the other students, thanks so much for taking an interest in sharing your thoughts with so many.

One of the humorous, among many, anecdotes told by covert stutterers is walking into their first speech therapy session and after a few minutes hearing the remark, "What are you doing here? You're pretty good with your fluency. Not sure what I can do for you?" What the SLP *SHOULD* be saying is, "You're pretty good with your tricks! Now, let's get to work. We have a lot to do!"

All I can suggest is that as a SLP, when you encounter that new client who sounds pretty darn fluent, dig deep!! Odds are there's a severe interiorized stutterer in front of you. You've only seen the tip of the iceberg -- and it's always fluent.
