To Monique and my buddy Russ. One of the main problems of being a "covert" stutter, as I see it, is they can't get the blocks out into the open to deal with them. When a covert stutter does have a severe block, instant panic sets in. They have no means to control the block or make it more moderate. We both have seen that happen in Boston. Remember a certain person blocking on the word, "natural?" SLPs need to first try and get the stuttering out into the open, then teach some control techniques. Monique, don't give up on that "fluency shaping" or control techniques just yet. I know that Russ and I will probably do some wrestling over this one at our workshop on Oct.13, in Royal Oak, Michigan. yes, this another shameless plug.
