Steve, thanks for responding. Here are some of the answers to your questions. I have tried putting him in pressure situations to see if he would stutter and he still doesn't stutter. When he is asked questions, he will answer them to the best of his ability or he'll say he doesn't know, which might be the case like you said. But he still isn't stuttering. He speaks in a very calm, slow rate. He indicated to me that when he does stutter it's because he is thinking about a few things at once and he tries to get everything out at once. He can answer direct questions without stuttering...ex. what is your name, address,phone number etc. He rarely pauses, interjects, or shows signs of postponement when answering questions he knows the answer to. I had him tell me narratives about pictures and that's when the postponements, interjections and pauses happen. I'm going to try your idea about purposeful stuttering and see how that goes. Thanks again for your input with this tough client.
