Hi Chris,

So good to read your article on “covert stuttering”. Even though I have an overt stutter (at times severe but mostly mild) I certainly related to your story and to your emotional feelings. I did not realize that you had an overt stutter as well.

I have a few questions: You stated that “what caused my fear of stuttering was pressure to meet others’ expectation “. Do you think that it really might be the expectation that we have of ourselves and since our self-image might be low that we feel this expectation is coming from others?

Another question is for those who are purely stutter covertly and do not show any signs of visible stuttering do you think that instead of having a stutter that they just might be very insecure and nervous people. I know many people who do not stutter but can have all the fear, guilt, shame and denial feelings with in them.

I look forward to reading your response Chris. It certainly was a pleasure to meet you in Chicago and Boston and I hope to get know you better in the future.
