What an important issue you targeted -- patience from the listener. Many fluent listeners sincerely act out of kindness and assistance when they "fill in for us" or "complete our sentences." We should be honest immediately and still complete our sentence or thought, regardless of their filling in. If this doesn't show them the importance you rank of completing your own thoughts and they STILL do it, that would be an appropriate time to actually mention it to them. A simple, "I appreciate your thoughtfulness but I really need to communicate my own thoughts. Thanks anyway," will often suffice and help them understand the importance of patience.

Great point!

Chris
