I have been using art in various forms throughout my career in speech therapy. I always have an ample supply of modeling clay, colored pencils and crayons, and assorted paper on hand. When I had the opportunity to work with very young students we also "dabbled" in painting. I have often found that children are much more open about their feelings when creating pictures than when simply asked to verbally share their feelings about their speech. This is true not only in stuttering therapy, but with language and articulation therapies as well. Thanks for this article...it makes me feel good about what I have been doing and will continue to do in speech with my kids.
