I agree. There is much to be gained by the person sharing the story and the people hearing/reading it. I intend to continue in this mode of encouraging people who stutter to share their stories.
But the benefits do not stop with those who stutter. In fact, I believe that sharing stories in person with nonstutterers may be one of the best ways to change their negative attitudes toward stuttering. I have begun to think about the possibilities of such an organized enterprise and may well try to test it out once we have finished developing a public opinion instrument that will be designed to assess public attitudes toward stuttering. Just another possibility......
