Tara,

There are many different "chapters" in a person's "story." It may be more difficult knowing where to stop than where to start;-)

I think there are many ways people can begin to "tell their own story." Ken and Rae Jean's book provides good suggestions. For some people, responding to a set of questions provides a guide in writing one's story. For others, simply sitting down and journaling is a good way to begin. Gathering and organizing family pictures might help a person start. For me, discovering, and then beginning to "write my story" began when I got interested in family history (exploring my roots) and began interviewing my parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles, and my older brother. If you are fortunate enough to still have most of those people in your life, you won't regret learning some of their stories (and where you fit in their stories) now.
