Lynn,

I truly thank you for your remarks. It makes me feel as if I've done some good.

You mentioned my exchange with Steve Hood... One thing that I forgot to state (amongst 1,000 others) is to stress the fact that, as an SLP, you represent an "authority figure" to the child, perhaps unwillingly, brought before you. It is known that stutterers stutter more severely when facing an "authority figure." SLPs MUST keep that in mind when dealing with any stutterer -- child or not. The mere fact that they are there to see a "SPEECH EXPERT WHO WILL CURE YOUR STUTTERING" places them in a no-win situation. They are there because they stutter, and the situation makes them stutter more. Some are able to conceal the extent of their stuttering; but others could be scarred for life just by being in that situation. It's no fun for them, and no fun for you.

But, and I go back to my discussion with Steve, remember that stuttering is NOT about words. It's about LIFE and the effects that stuttering has on one's life.

Take care...for both of you!
