Hello again, Mike. AKA Grizzled Vet

I thought your analogy to the hurt animal was superb, and quite true, especially for animals. For many years we have had pet golden retrievers, so I know something about pain reactions from wounded pets.

In your response, you indicated that there may be times when we need to go to "an older animal, a grizzled veteran of many battles." And you posted that powerful e-mail from the mother of an 18-month old infant...

Idealistically, and albeit naievely, I remain hopeful that it might one day be possble to arrive on the scene earlier, and more positively.

My hope would some day to be able to help the "just recently suffering younger child," before he acquired the additional scars to make him a grizzled veteran.

We are not there yet. But compared to decades ago, I do believe we are getting closer. I think papers on ISAD such as those by Bill Murphy and Gail Wilson Lew go a step in this direction. I think the "Organizations' Outreach To Children and Teens Who Stutter" programs that appear on ISAD are also a step in the right direction. (See paper by Blom, Caggiano, Fraser, Reardon, and Fortin.)

The more I read of your thoughts and philosophy, the more I look forward to meeting you. We have have some wonderful and meaningful discussions.

This has been a meaningful exchange of ideas, and I am appreciative.

Thank you, Mike.

Steve Hood
