Use of CD-ROM as Tool to Spread Awareness about Stutttering.

When I started looking to Net about a Year ago or so for Stuttering related information, I thought following..

In India, internet and telephone lines are not cheap. So it would be difficult for anyone to Read Internet Sites online. More often, a person would like to read good papers or articles or research materials related to stuttering at his own time. Book or printed form is the best as he can read as and when he feels like. Reading online was almost impossible. So I looked for some off-line site download tool. I came across one software (Freeware) WinHTTrack Website Copier 3.00-RC-6 (Site - http://www.httrack.com).

I have been using a computer lot since last 10 or more years. And may be I can be called somewhat Power user. I tried this and set up to download site. I had downloaded various sites including Stutteringhomepage, ECU Stuttering Home Page etc. This software was easy to use as it builds sort of Html page with title after downloading site. And it was very easy to just click that to view off-line site in any Browser. It needed some setting so that download s/w would go anywhere on Web and get links and not remain on same Domain or How deep you want to get links. With trial and error one may get all he wants. And such downloaded site can be read whenever you want. Like recently I downloaded ISAD 4 Site also.

As a PWS, I have explored stutteringhomepage and still there is so much more to explore in it. And it would not have been possible, if I were not able to download and read them. One can save web pages and read but that would be too cumbersome. When downloading ECU site I had to exclude .rm files (Real Audio as some of them are too large. One can Exclude files from downloading or exclude Links from download.

Why I am writing my Experience now is to explore following possibility. Some Stuttering Related Oragnisation or Person, who has expertise and resources, can do following. They can download all data and make CD out of it. Such CD , can easily include most of the good sites on Internet related to stuttering and could be presented in good way. Like in my software, I get Index Web Page of all sites downloaded and I click on them to go to site on my computer So easy to navigate.

If anyone wants Screen Dump of this, request me in Private. I can send Word Screen Capture to explain or show. And I do not have to do it. Software when I add new Project to download, adds it to Home Page (index.htm) on it's own.

Such CD Rom can be produced in Bulk with some sponsorship, if available, and can be distributed free or with nominal no profit - no loss consideration. SLPs could be encouraged to recommend it to Parents or Schools or to anyone who is in anyway in contact with PWS. ISAD Papers are also very good to read. I experimented with it. It had some 1.61 Mb Data and 66 File when I downloaded ISAD 4 Pages. It's almost complete ISAD 4 Excluding, Question and Answers. After ISAD gets over, I would try again to get those all Q & A also. With WinRAR I was able to compress and save it as self-extracting file. So one has to just put ISAD4.EXE in any Directory and run it. It would extract all file in Sub-Dir ISAD 4 and then just go to ISAD 4 Sub-Dir and click on Index.htm and you can access complete ISAD4 Papers. Size of this file is barely 750 K. And can fit even in 3.5" floppy and can be circulated very easily.

For People, who do not have internet or for those whom Internet is still expensive, this things may help a lot. For Experiment, I had put up ISAD4 on my Yahoo Group , IndianPWS. If anyone wants to have that file, download from it or request me.
