Hi, I am one of the few people in SID 4, that did not go for fluency specialization. I felt the education requirement would limit me in terms of taking the courses I need to be a good slp in the schools. (Problem with education requirement is that they must be CEU's-there is a lot of information people get that do not have CEU's attachted. My problem with fluency specialization is that the CEU's required for fluency specialization does not recognize that other CEU's in speech and language as valid for certification. In 22 years I have only had 1 child who just had a stuttering problem. Right now, I have two kids that stutter. One has psychiatric problems and is on medications. The other one has severe phonological problems and continues to have severe language problems as well as being ADHD. If I didn't keep up with many aspects of speech and language I would be doing a disservice to my kids that stutter. As far as the new requirements, they are a danger not only to people with fluency disorders but the whole field.

Just my two cents, Patti Bohlman
