My concern is if the Speech Pathologist is not working with the stuttering population in our public school system. Who will ? In the school I am currently employed at. We have so little funds that the district has cut most of the extras out of the budget. Do we consider it an emotional -behaviorial disorder and pass it on to the school social worker or counselor. Those positions have been cut because they were not mandated by the federal and state regulations. I am seeing a rise in the number of students on my caseload that stutter. Kids have more than enough to deal with alone these days. Why would I want to give them one more MAJOR thing. At least my students know that they have my support and because we work in the classroom they have the support of peers and teachers who have been given a little education on the subject and are not afraid of it.
