I think we primarily have to make sure that people in the profession are aware that fluency disorders is an important part of our practice and not be swayed so much by issues like reimbursement (not to say that isn't important, but it's becoming too much of a driving force, in my opinion). As I said in my article, it appears that many people were unaware of the implications of the 1993 standards changes, and we need to make sure that doesn't happen with the 2005 standards.

Those of us who care about fluency can also make the area interesting and exciting for our students, to try to ensure that at least some emerging professionals have an interest in the disorder.
