Stacey,

Overcome our disorders? You mean our stuttering? Ha, ha! I echo almost exactly what Bernie said. I still stutter, but it's not a disorder in the slightest for me any more. In those ancient days Shady Trails taught a primitive form of fluency shaping which helped us attain temporary fluency, but it was totally lost after several weeks at home. If you're familiar with the iceberg analogy of stuttering, Shady Trails only treated the visible (or audible) part of stuttering, not the huge amount of "baggage" beneath the surface. As a result, I had very limited success, speech-wise, at Shady Trails. But decades later I joined the NSA and Toastmasters which helped me greatly with the emotional baggage, the part beneath the surface. And together with my "speech controls" from Shady Trails, I'm very happy with were I am today. Still stuttering, but able to communicate very well.

Thanks for your interest in this paper, Stacey, and good luck with your future career!

Russ
