Being happy with oneself, as you put it, is a key to a satisfying life. But, as you may know, that is a monumental achievement for many people. It is a good thing that there are so many valuable, solid resources, i.e., friends, family, therapists, clergy, books, guided retreats, etc., available to help us learn to accept ourselves.

Taking the first step can lead to more problems, though, for those looking for a "quick fix." Many people try to escape parts of themself they don't like by using drugs, alcohol, and people. They are happy for a while because they are distracted from issues that concern them. Later, when the distractions fade the bothersome issues surface, and those people can become even more sad and unhappy.

So, yes, self-acceptance is a wonderful goal, one worth working toward!

Best wishes,
