I read Griffin's paper and thought I'd add a tid-bit to my previous note. When I first started teaching at the U. of Montana in 1966 I wrote out many of my lectures, outlined, organized, etc. Although this wasn't reading perse, I certainly spent a good deal of time organizing and writing/reading lecture materials and I have always thought that was useful in enhancing my fluency. I suspect Griffin's work may also call for some amount of rehearsal and writing before speaking that is useful to him. I still find being prepared useful, especially when I teach from 9 until 5 on Saturdays! pete
