Of course parents should be involved. It is, in my opinion, almost impossible to treat young stutterers effectively without parental involvement. It can be done, but it takes 3 to 4 times as long, in our experience. Although one can't be sure, it is possible that the reason school-based speech therapy for stutterers has such a poor record is because parents are less likely to be involved. They naturally see the school as providing a service and some at least will not think that they need to be involved. The school clinician has to make it clear to them that without their involvement the chances of success are much reduced.
