My compliments on a very interesting article. I fully agree with your perception on the role of fear, frustration and shame in the problem of stuttering. Where I would beg to differ is on your conclusion about the training of SLPs as stutter therapists. Recognising the importance of addressing the emotional aspects of stuttering, should not we conclude there is a need for another curriculum and training programme for stutter therapists? Should they be SLPs who on a voluntary basis expand their views and expertise of stuttering or should we aim for a new specialism of stutter therapist with a training programme that consists for instance of 40% speech pathology and 60% psychology?
