I was for a few years a member of the Nederlandse Vereiniging voor stottertherapie, so your question made me feel right at home.
The solution you propose for training students seems similar to what I believe. Practically, it is not possible to include the psychotherapeutic training that is required in the typical MA level curriculum. But it can be, and should be, included in the training of specialists. As it stands now, such training would be acceptable in a specialist's portfolio, although not a requirement. Personally, I think we would be better equipped to deal with stuttering if it were required of specialists, but I am not hopeful that such a change will be made. My main point is that it is better to ensure that individual therapists have knowledge both of speech pathology and of psychology, as these two areas relate to stuttering, rather than to cobble together a combination of different people with different training.
