Hi:

It varies from person to person. Some people certainly find fear to be a major problem, and it can be a fear of embarrassment, or a fear of losing control, or a fear based on some earlier experience that is not really pertinent to the present situation yet still powerful. Others are deeply ashamed and find this the most difficult aspect of their stuttering. For others it is anger directed in various ways. I don't think there is a single answer.
