Dear Mary Thank you for the question. It is a very good one. I think had the therapy, which is now available been available then it would have made a change in my life. Therapy in the 60’s was much different then it is now. For one thing it would have helped my parents understand my plight. I think it would have made them more understanding towards stuttering. If I had ever been made to feel stuttering was okay it would have helped immensely. If I had known more about stuttering I think it may have given a few more choices. I received therapy for depression and aggressive behavior which if coupled with the modern fluency therapy I think it would have been much more successful. They were treating the symptoms but never the cause. I don’t really know how many blocks I have had over the years, what is really strange to me is I never even knew they were called blocks until I attended the NSA convention in Boston.

I think early intervention can help greatly, if it not, at least no harm will be done. We can all choose for ourselves which direction we want to take unless the information is not made available to us. Having the best information makes our choices much more informed.

I am glad you enjoied the paper and thank you for your intrest and questions.
