I was in speech therapy from age 4 to college age. During my public school years, I had therapy in school in addition to my private therapist. Also, in high school, my parents sent me to Hollins College in VA and Arizona State Univ. for various therapies. I also saw a hypnotist. Although none significantly improved my stuttering, I am a firm believer in speech therapy. I did learn certain techniques that I still use today, ie: how to soften my contact on a hard consonant or how to breathe properly going into a difficult sound. It was not a total loss, not at all. One of my concerns in having a birth child was that he or she would stutter. Should that have happened, I would have definately sought speech therapy for the child. My grandfather and father stuttered, as did his younger brother, so it does 'run' in our family. My brothers are not stutterers. When I had a son, I was quite panicked about it. He is now 10 years old, with no sign of any speech problem. Thank you for your kind comments. Candace
