Thanks for a paper on such an important topic.

I find that some SLPs (myself included) get so accustomed to trying to solve problems (here's the goal, here are the proper procedures, we'll do A, B, C, then D, etc.) that we have trouble shifting out of this when needed. When the PLWS says, 'When I'm about to speak I get excited and stutter,' the default position is not 'It's very distressing' but something more along the lines of 'OK, you identified the problem. Here are my initial thoughts on the solution.' Intellectually, we know the client may not be looking for this. He might be confused or just wanting to vent. But the reaction does not necessarily match the understanding.

Do you come across this problem? If so, what advice do you offer?
