Actually, you bring up a favorite point of mine...even though many people like to talk about stuttering as a "small" aspect of our field, in truth, the skills we MUST have to help people who stutter help us in our treatment of all people with communication disorders. I jokingly call my counseling class my "job security" since I'm teaching broad-based skills, and even if there were a de-emphasis on fluency disorders at my university (which won't happen), then I'd still have a class to teach ;-)

Thanks for bringing up this important point -- learning to treat people who stutter effectively and compassionately opens the door for improving our clinical skills overall!
