This intensive treatment program incorporates advanced fluency- facilitating techniques and procedures. The attention is directed to managing speech, attitude, and lifestyle factors which contribute to and maintain stuttering behaviors.

Instructions are carefully outlined by the speech therapist and progress is paced and monitored and paced through audio and video recording, electronic voice monitors and computer displays. In the third and final weeks of the program, individuals transfer their newly acquired skills to settings outside the clinic environment. A psychologist introduces strategies to deal with the tension, negative thoughts and anticipation's which can interfere with the use of fluency skills in speaking situations.

The intensive course is only the initial phase of the program when new speech skills are learned and transferred to everyday speaking situations. Continued practice of fluency skills along with participation at follow-up sessions, refresher course's, and self-help group meetings, are necessary for the long term maintenance of fluency.

Participants of the program attend the clinic daily for a period of 25 days, Monday-Friday, from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm plus one evening from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Also, home assignments are given at the end of the day and for weekends.
