Mission and Goals of the Student Conduct Process

The mission of the student conduct system is to promote and enforce the "Statement of Student Responsibilities" following a philosophy of educational discipline. As a condition of membership in the University community, each student is responsible for knowing and adhering to Minnesota State University and MnSCU System policies along with federal, state and local laws. Through involvement in the adjudication process, students have an opportunity to develop new ways of resolving difficulties and relating to others while strengthening their comprehension of rules and regulations necessary to maintain a safe environment conducive to learning and growth.

Goals include the following enforcement and learning outcomes:

  • to allow the University to establish and enforce behavioral expectations;
  • to hold students accountable for their actions and make them aware of behavioral consequences;
  • to promote individual insight;
  • to increase empathy for those harmed;
  • to educate students in the life skills needed to be successful and well adjusted;
  • to support a safe, inclusive and affirming campus environment;
  • to teach skills of self control, anger management, decision-making, compromise and moral reasoning;
  • to educate students about the core values of integrity and civility.
