Principles of HVAC Engineering

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, green construction has grown dramatically over the past few years. As the size of the industry grows, so will its workforce. According to a U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and Booz Allen Hamilton study, green construction supported more than 1 million workers in the green construction industry between 2000 and 2008. USGBC projects this figure to rise to 3.3 million between 2009 and 2013—and these estimates of the green construction workforce do not include employment for suppliers of green building materials and products, an industry that should also experience increased growth as demand for their goods rises.

This four course program is for anyone interested in working with or better understanding the HVAC field and energy in the built environment.

Course Topics:

New Industrial Construction

Fundamentals of Thermodynamics Review: This course will cover the basics of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid flow, and electrical systems relevant to HVAC systems and calculations.

Fundamentals of HVAC Calculations: This course will cover the basics of simple heating load, cooling load, and friction loss calculations for HVAC design.

HVAC Bootcamp: This will provide a fundamental overview of HVAC design and the HVAC industry for engineers, architects, and other technical professionals who are new to the field.

LEED GA: This course includes a review of material you need to pass the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Associate examination. It will provide an overview of the LEED rating system and how it is applied. The course will give an overview of the LEED core concepts and the LEED application process. Students will receive a certificate of eligibility to take the LEED GA examination.
