Meaningful Inclusion: Tools and Information for Working with Diverse Learners
Participants in this session will explore typical strengths and challenges of children with diverse needs in K-12 music education settings. Discussion and lessons will focus on research for specific diagnoses and suggestions for adapting curriculum for student success. Participants will also explore issues with including children with special needs in ensemble settings. Focus will be given to legal and ethical aspects of select ensembles versus open enrollment groups. The session will end with an open feedback session focusing on individual situations.

David L. Gadberry, Ph.D.
Dr. Gadberry is currently teaching courses in music education and music fundamentals at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Gadberry earned his doctorate in music education from the University of Kansas and has a research focus of inclusion of students with special needs, behavior management, folk music and general music pedagogy. He has presented workshops and lectures on these topics at the local, regional, state, national, and international levels.
