This will be a journey in understanding humanity, exploring the history of human rights, and being immersed in South African culture by spending fourteen days on the ground in country.  We will see the country, strive for an understanding the historic culture, and connect with people.

The trip will include experiencing

  • Cape Town, District Six (political basis for the feature film “District Nine”)

  • Port Elizabeth

  • Red Location Museum (Apartheid Museum)

  • Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years)

  • Partnerships and connections with South African students

    • Eden Campus Tertiary School of Business Administration
    • Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University
  • Sedgefield “Garden Route”

  • An African safari

Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the role or contribution of a cultural heritage to the humanities.

  2. Identify the links between historical events and human self-expression in a particular culture.

  3. Analyze a culture's major works in the arts and humanities in terms of their contribution to the understanding of the human experience

  4. Demonstrate basic knowledge of a culture's major artistic movements, value systems and the individuals who have shaped human culture

  5. Critically evaluate the aesthetic quality of literary works of art

  6. Critically evaluate the aesthetic quality of visual art forms

  7. Critically evaluate the aesthetic quality of a culture's performance art forms

  8. Participate in active learning by exposure to major works of the literary, visual, and performing Arts in a particular culture

  9. Identify and understand your own ability to express personal identity in the arts

  10. Learn about the humanities/fine arts

  11. Formulate personal reactions to the fine arts of South Africa

 Registration Instructions

By April 20th: Registration and a NON-REFUNDABLE $500 initial deposit is all that's required.

The entire process takes less than five minutes.

If you'd like to receive our group rate for air travel, please make sure to do the following when you create your "student" profile to register:

  • Fill out the First, Middle, and Last Name fields as it appears on your passport
  • Accurate Date of Birth
  • Put your passport # in the last field "Special needs (including dietary)." They are usually 9 digits in length in the upper right corner and lower left corner. Older ones are shorter with a letter.
  • Please note that there is no asterisk * by Social Security Number, because you do not have to provide it

If you do not include this information in the form, we assume you are not interested in our discounted airplane tickets.

If you're uncomfortable including that information when you register, feel free to email Michael with that information.

At a later date, the rest of the $4,950 (double room rate) or $5,550 (single room rate) will be paid through the same login, registration-payment process. An email notification with the specific deadline will be sent out well in advance of that payment deadline.
