Registration Procedure

  • Contact the MSU Counseling Center 507-389-1455 to schedule a test time and date.
  • Complete the Registration form located on the back of the "Information for Candidates" brochure. This brochure is located in the hall just outside the Counseling Center, 245 CSU. or on-line at collegeboard.com/clep.
  • Return your completed form to the Counseling Center, 245 Centennial Student Union, Minnesota State University, Mankato, MN  56001 along with your non-refundable $25.00  registration fee. Checks should be written to MSU, credit cards are NOT accepted for the service fee.
  • Your completed form and registration fee must be received 2 weeks prior to your test date or you may not be able to complete your schelduled exam. NOTE: Your test time and date will not be confirmed until this step has been completed!.

CLEP Fees

  • There is a $25.00  non-refundable registration fee payable by check at the time of registration. This fee, along with the registration form, MUST be received by the Counseling Center a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the scheduled test date. Checks should be payable to MSU.
  • CLEP requires a fee of $80.00 per test.  This fee is paid by credit card or check. This check must be made payable to CLEP and should be included with the registration.  If paying by credit card, you will pay on the day of the test.

CLEP Credits

Contact the Registrar's Office (507-389-6266) to determine:

  • Your eligibility for CLEP credits. NOTE: any prior course work in the area you test in may impact your CLEP credit eligibility.
  • The number of University credits (if any) you will receive after taking the CLEP exam.
  • Any limitations on the quantity of CLEP credit you may receive.

All other questions regarding the interpretation of CLEP scores and academic credit should be directed to the Registrar's Office.

For those attending a different institution, please contact your school for correct information pertaining to that institution.

CLEP Tests

  • CLEP tests are computer-based tests (CBT).
  • All tests are 90 minutes in length.
  • Most exams are mulitple choice or fill-in questions. Some exams may contain an essay or listening portion.
  • We are currently unable to offer the College Composition and College Composition Modular exams.
  • All tests are administered in CSU room 12.
  • There is no CLEP testing in August.
