The Clothesline Project addresses the issue of violence against women through the decoration of t-shirts. This campaign works to de-stabilize the widespread myth that violence is a private matter and provides an artistic avenue through which women and men can break the silence. The shirts are then displayed on a clothesline to be viewed by others in the community as testimony, a literal “airing of the dirty laundry” of the problem of violence against women. Students, community members and faculty & staff members are all welcome to decorate a shirt commemorating their own experiences or a loved one’s.
