The goal of the Office of Multicultural Affairs is to provide a vehicle for the four departments within the Center; African American Affairs, American Indian Affairs, Asian American Affairs & Chicano, Mexicano, Latino Affairs to accommodate the ethnic student population and provide support to help the student have a successful academic career at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

The African American Affairs Program provides support, guidance, financial aid, emergency loans, academic/career/personal counseling. Support programs include:

  • Courses for Excellence; Academic advising on course selection to help increase academic success.
  • Tutoring/Study groups; Academic support for students in selected areas to clarify course requirements and assignments
  • Academic Monitoring; for first year students, those on provisional admittance or having academic concerns.
  • Mentoring; Providing support to insure a successful transition to the Minnesota State Mankato academic environment
  • Academic Counseling; Helping and giving academic support for selection of classes. Instructors, credit limitations, setting "realistic" academic goals, etc.
