Dance BFA, New Student Placement and Freshman Talent Grant auditions

Auditions occur in March and August of each year. The next audition will occur on Friday, August 23, 2019. Students will indicate on audition day if they auditioning for BFA, placement and/or talent grants. Regardless of what you are auditioning for, the audition day will be the same for all students.

The purpose of the Minnesota State University, Mankato's Dance program's new student placement audition is to determine what level of dance technique you should be in.

Here is an approximate schedule for the day in Room PA 126:

10-11:30 a.m.—Dance Class (combination of ballet, jazz and contemporary modern)

11-11:30 a.m.—BFA Applicants Only (solos, interviews, writing sample)

11:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Q&A for students

12:30-2:30 p.m. Individual Advising Sessions for all incoming dance students

If you are planning to attend, you MUST complete the BFA or Freshman Talent Grant application and contact me via email so we know you're coming: You may also write if you have any questions.

Please arrive early so you can warm-up. The studio will be open. Make sure you are in your dance attire. Bring ballet slippers, but be able to dance in bare feet for part of the audition. The class will consist of a ballet segment, a contemporary modern-based combination and a jazz combination. You will not be asked to dance alone; essentially, you are participating in a dance class so we can watch you dance to determine your dance level.

On the afternoon of the day you audition, you will meet with the dance faculty. They will conduct an individual advising session with you. At this time, they will review your schedule, including both dance and general education coursework, to make sure you are in the correct classes for the fall. Any changes can be made that day. For more information, or if you have general questions, contact Julie Kerr-Berry, Director of Dance.
