President's Message, Fall 2012

Dear Minnesota State Mankato Students, Faculty, and Staff:

Members of our Minnesota State University, Mankato learning community deserve and want a healthy human environment.

To this end and in compliance with federal law (The Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Act Amendment of 1989), Minnesota State University, Mankato adopted and implemented a program to prevent the illicit use of drugs and the abuse of alcohol by students and employees of Minnesota State Mankato. We would like to update you again on this program, which includes the following:

• providing all students and employees with information concerning the health risks associated with the use of illicit drugs and the abuse of alcohol;
• informing students and employees of drug and alcohol counseling, treatment, or rehabilitation programs that are available to them;
• informing students and employees of the policies, laws and/or standards of conduct that clearly prohibit, at a minimum, the possession, use, or distribution of drugs and alcohol by students and employees on Minnesota State Mankato's premises or as any part of our institution's activities except as permitted under MnSCU and Minnesota State Mankato policies;
• providing all students and employees with a description of the applicable legal sanctions under local, state, and federal law for unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol.
• notifying all students and employees of the sanctions for violating standards of conduct consistent with local, state, and federal laws.

This document complies with Federal laws (The Drug-Free Work Place Act of 1988 and the Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989) which require that all colleges and universities, including Minnesota State University, Mankato, provide a program to prevent the illicit use of drugs and the abuse of alcohol by its students, faculty, and staff. The University's failure to comply with these laws may make the University and its students ineligible to receive federal funds or any form of financial assistance under any federal program, including student loans.
