Assistive Technology

A variety of assistive technology is available for student use. Materials are checked out at the Office of Disabilities Services. Charges for unreturned materials will be assessed through the Office of Business Affairs.

  • FM System—This device is available for students who are hard of hearing or have a central auditory processing disorder.  It includes a microphone for the instructor and headphone speakers for the student. 
  • Wheelchair—The Disabilities Services has a manual wheelchair available for short term use for students who have a temporary need.
  • Speech to Text Technology--Disabilities Services has a web license for software (Kurzweil) that enables users to have text on their personal computer read to them. 
  • Text to Speech Technology —Disabilities Services has dictation software (Dragon Naturally Speaking) that allows students to verbally dictate their course work and the computer types the dictation into text.
  • Video Relay Service(VRS) --- provides ASL interpreter for phone communication.  Located on the first floor of the CSU - next to Ostrander Auditorium entrance.

 

The ADA Workstation on the main floor of the Memorial Library has the following technology available:  accessible computer station, JAWS, Kurzweil, Zoomtext, scanner, and an Optelec video magnifier.  Call 389-5064 to obtain operating hours.

The   Academic Computer Center (Wissink Hall 117) has the following technology available:  accessible computer station, JAWS, Kurzweil.  Call 389-5160 to obtain operating hours.
