The Dogozshi Black on White is a type of ware usually found in the United States southwest in areas in and near Arizona . Black on White ware were products of the Hopi mesas of Kana-a and Black Mesa. The Dogozshi, which was in the Pueblo II era, dates back from 1040 to 1220 AD. Barium and iron were the primary elements of these pieces. The Dogozshi wares were mainly made into jars and canteen like pieces for storing food, water, and other things. Rarely were ladles and bowls made. The ware had a unique light gray to white paste and a fine sand temper with occasional dark angular fragments. The surface of the pieces were polished, slipped, and had oblique hatched designs with rectangular motifs generally.
