eleanor site

The Eleanor Site is located in Nicollet County adjacent to Swan Lake. It is one of several sites representing the Middle Woodland of central Minnesota. It was originally located by visual surface examination which yielded a wide variety of ceramic and stone artifacts. The site became the focus of the Archaeological Field School during the seasons of 1976-78. Directors of the Field Schools included Dr. Christy A.H. Caine (Hamline University), Kathleen Roetzel and Dr. Richard A. Strachan (Mankato State University).

The site yielded house structures, storage areas, fire hearths, "sidewalks" and artifacts which suggested that the occupants were growing domesticated corn and participated in the trade structure throughout the Mississippi River Valley.
