saylorville lake

This project was conducted by Impact Services Inc. under contract with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District. It called for the relocation and testing of 27 recorded archaeological sites on the periphery of Saylorville Lake in central Iowa. A subsequent modification to the project called for additional testing of 9 of the original 27 sites. It also included the resurvey of 1 other site that had not been included in the original contract.

The objectives of the project were twofold. First, since most of the sites were identified on the basis of surface manifestations, more intensive testing was required to provide data which would allow for accurate assessment of site location, type, cultural affiliation and current condition. Additional testing at selected sites was then directed towards a more complete evaluation of the research potential of those sites.
