General  Museums

Museum of Afro-American History Boston This museum focuses on African Americans during the colonial period. They have adapted their walking tour of historically important buildings to an internet tour. There are pictures along the tour, but more pictures, especially where the buildings aren't shown would make a better tour. 7/7/99

Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site This site has a good overview of the history of Cahokia with lots of images. You can also learn about the different forms of architecture at Cahokia. 7/6/99

The Museum of the ConfederacyThis museum has a good history of the Civil War in the South. In the collections area, you can see pictures of a limited amount of their items. They do not have any pictures of the items they describe in their exhibitions section. More pictures would really improve this site. 7/2/99

Illinois State MuseumThe online exhibits for this site are listed on the Exhibits page. Some of the exhibits don't have enough pictures, for example the Mazon Creek fossils exhibit is all text with links to their pictures. It would look better if the pictures were integrated into the text. There is information about Illinois and the Midwest in general. 6/30/99

Arkansas State University Museum This site has information about continental drift and extinct animals. It also describes the physical changes the land that is currently Arkansas went through as the continental plates shifted from one massive content to where they are today. Links with good online information are Plesiosaurs! and Crowley's Ridge Mastodon in Permanent Exhibits, and Melancholy Edifices: Photographs by Curtis Duncan in Traveling Exhibits. More pictures in the Plesiosaurs! Exhibit and the Crowley's Ridge Mastodon Exhibit would be helpful. 6/30/99

The Oriental Institute Museum This museum has artifacts and photographs of archaeological sites from a variety of areas. The best place to go to on this site is the Museum. From there you can look at a photographic archive, or the virtual museum with panoramic views. The pictures in the photographic archive are from excavations that occurred mostly in the 1930's and so are not in color, however, it is an extensive collection compared to most of the other photo galleries available from online museums. 7/2/99

The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians And Western Art This site has great educational resources for students and even teachers.  It has an online Teacher Resource Guide that can be very usefull for lesson plans, as well as research for your students. 10/14/04
