Epilobium angustifolium L. (fireweed; great willow-herb)

The young shoots and leaves were eaten. The stalks, latter in the season, were split open and the pith removed and cooked. The dried leaves were also used to make tea.

Erodium cicutarium (L.) L’Her. (filaree; stork’s bill)

The shoots, when young, were cooked or eaten raw.

Erythronium mesochoreum Knerr. & E. albidum Nutt. (spring lily; snake lily)

The root was eaten raw in Spring.

Fagus grandifolia Ehrh. (beech)

These nuts were stored by chipmunks, and the Indians would find the caches and eat the nuts themselves (Dunsmore 1979).

Falcata comosa (L.) Kuntze. (wild bean; hog peanut)

Root boiled and eaten.

Fragaria virginiana Duchesne. (wild strawberry)

They ate the fruit. Tea was also made of the dried leaves.
