Nelumbo lutea (Willd) Pes. (yellow lotus)

The seeds and tubers were eaten boiled. Also used to season soups and meat.

Nuphar advena (Ait.) Ait. F. (yellow water lily)

The roots were boiled or roasted with fowl or other game. The seeds were ground and made into bread or gruel, or were parched and eaten as popcorn.

Oenothera biennis L. (evening primrose)

The taproot of the first years growth was eaten raw or boiled. The young shoots of the second year were also eaten.

Opuntia compressa (Salisb.) MacBr. (prickly pear)

Oryzopsis hymenoides (Roem. & Schult.) Ricker. (rice grass)

The seeds were parched and made into a mush.

Osmorhiza spp. (sweet cicely)

Berries of all species were eaten, or used for flavoring. Also ate the boiled roots.

Oxalis violacea L. (sheep sorrel; violet wood sorrel)

The ate the leaves, flowers, scapes, and bulbs.

Oxycoccus macrocarpus (Ait.) Pers. (cranberry)

Berries cooked with sugar.
