The leaves could be mixed with water and drank to stop periods. The root was mixed with water and drops put in ears for ear infections.

Thaspium barbinode (Michx.) Nutt. (meadow parsnip)

The root was mixed in water and drank to relieve colic in children.

Thermopsis rhombifolia (Nutt.) Richards. (false lupine)

The flowers were dried and burned, the smoke inhaled to relieve rheumatism.

Thuja occidentalis L. (arborvitae)

The wood was burned and the charcoal mixed with a bear’s gall and pricked into the temples with needles to stop convulsions.

Trillium grandiflorum (Michx.) Salisb. (wake-robin)

The inner bark was pulverized and applied dry to wounds.

The down was used to make dressings for burns and scalds, and on infants to prevent chafing.
