Zoltán Kodály

Zoltán Kodály worked with Bela Bartok, and the two studied and recorded folk songs. Kodály used these folk songs in his own compositions and became an important Hungarian composer. He also advocated musical education, and taught at the Budapest Academy beginning in 1907. After World War II, his ideas became the basis of state policy; partly because of the large output of choral music he wrote, much of which was for children, and partly because of his exercise pieces. His exercises were widely used as a model abroad.
