Ktunaxa

Location:

Canadian Rockies. Two communities are located in the United States (Idaho and Montana), the other five communities are in southeast British Columbia.

Economy:

Today the Ktunaxa live in reservation communities where they participate in the tourism industry. The Ktunaxa Teepee Company makes traditional canvas teepees, and they also have a casino

History:

Before European contact, the Ktunaxa lived in teepee’s and traveled throughout the Ktunaxa territory as hunter/gatherers. They enjoyed dried buffalo meat and fresh salmon as well as many other sources of food and medicine from the land.
