Cars are the most widely used method of transportation in Mankato, like any other major city. Highways allow Mankato citizens access to the rest of the country and local streets are conveniently placed to reach almost any destination within the city quickly.
Air Travel

The Mankato Regional Airport was built in 1970 between St. Peter and Mankato. The airport is 920 acres in size and consists of two runways. It can accommodate planes as large as Boeing 727's and DC9's. An Instrument Landing System (ILS) was installed in 1991 which allows landings in inclement weather equal to that of the Minneapolis International Airport. Many corporations fly their representatives into the Mankato Airport to conduct business with area businesses men. The airport offers classes in aviation, allowing area residents to obtain there private pilot's licenses and is the site of many air shows.
Bus System![]()
Mankato has an excellent bus system which provides inexpensive transportation to area residents. With scheduled stops at many important locations including Minnesota State University, Mankato, River Hills Mall, and Mankato Place, the bus system covers virtually every region of Mankato.
Railroads
Railroads are no longer used to transport people in Mankato. They are, however, used by many area businesses to transport raw and manufactured goods to and from Mankato.
