Emuseum @ MSU

Mission Statement

Adopted October, 2007

What and Who We Are: The EMuseum at Minnesota State University, Mankato is a completely virtual museum: we have no material collections but instead create and post exhibits and information via our webpage on the Internet. The EMuseum is affiliated with the Anthropology Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato and receives financial and other support from the Department, the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the University, and several private individuals. We are a student-run organization with professional oversight.

Who Our Audience Is and How We Relate to Them: The EMuseum’s primary audience is English speakers with access to the Internet. However, our pages are open to online and other translation services and some of our pages are in other language. Because we utilize the Internet as our primary means of communication, our audience is potentially broadened to the global level.

What Services We Provide: The mission of the EMuseum is tri-fold: provide training and research opportunities through employment at the EMuseum to current graduate and undergraduate Minnesota State University, Mankato students; involve students in the peer review process by providing a platform for research presentation and discussion; and to promote cultural enrichment and continuous learning for the global community through our web content. The EMuseum promotes a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of knowledge through our online exhibits, with a focus on the range of human biological and cultural variation. We accomplish this with content on archaeology, biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, history, and related subjects.

Attainable Goals: The EMuseum, as a part of Minnesota State University, Mankato, establishes priorities through planning and assessment processes and seeks to focus its efforts and resources to support the EMuseum’s goals. These goals include creating and maintaining quality scholarly web content and supporting learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
