different cultures by researching and then creating a "museum exhibit."

Students acquaint
themselves with the way artwork of early Native Americans incorporated aspects
of their environment and everyday experiences, and students apply those
principles in their own creative efforts.
Chinese Kite Art;
Grade 3 The purpose of this activity is for the
students to learn how to make their own Chinese kite. Students learn about
diversity by comparing the differences in the cultures and customs of the
United States and China.
American Indian Leather Painting Grades 5 and 6Students use paper bags to create stories
that resemble old Indian leather paintings. They can think about what life was
like in an Indian tribe and how they communicated their stories on to their
children.
Beginner Bonsai Grades
5+ Students will understand the tradition of Bonsai trees and how they
develop.
Moccasin Making History, Art,
Math Grades 4-6 Students will make moccasins (like the Salish
side-seam pattern).
Origami Grade 4
Students will demonstrate the ability to use paper folding by understanding the
Japanese culture and some of the reasons why it is believed that Origami was
started.
Plant Dyes Fine Arts, Social
Studies, Science Grades K-6 Students will be able to use plant materials
to create various colored dyes and will be able to use these dyes to create a
painting and/or dye cloth.
Japanese Kite Stories Grade 1 Students will learn about a traditional Japanese
practice.
Pictograph Stone Carving Social Studies, Language Arts, or Art Grades 3 - 5The
students will learn a method of communication used by ancient Egyptian or
Native American tribes.
The Hmong and the Storycloth
This lesson shows how traditions and cultures are transmitted through
folklore and art.
Cave Art Elementary
GradesThis lesson enables students to participate in a discussion about
primitive cave people and simulate an environment that resembles a prehistoric
cave.
